<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://wandering.shop/@xgranade" class="u-url mention">@<span>xgranade</span></a></span> aside from what bob said, in 2017 only extremely online people actually knew this. like, i discussed Musk with others in 2020 and people just genuinely do not know it unless they spend 5 hours a day on twitter</p>
<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://feed.hella.cheap/@bob" class="u-url mention">@<span>bob</span></a></span> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@mcc" class="u-url mention">@<span>mcc</span></a></span> wasm is... also... a pretty bad pick for a GC language? at least, in its present day form, as far as i know assemblyscript doesn&#39;t implement any of the GC extensions so you&#39;re basically stuck with less expressive LLVM (for the purposes of this discussion)</p>
<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@whitequark" class="u-url mention">@<span>whitequark</span></a></span> Musk has been like this since at least 2017, when he started going full GamerGate. That said, Teslas are pretty expensive luxury cars... I might feel differently if they weren&#39;t in and of themselves symbols of pretty significant privilege.</p>
<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://wandering.shop/@xgranade" class="u-url mention">@<span>xgranade</span></a></span> I would definitely judge anyone who bought one new, but there&#39;s plenty of people who were driving one since before Musk was well known and just need to get around</p><p>existing in a car-driven society requires driving a car and i don&#39;t think everyone has the financial freedom to consume in the morally correct way</p>
<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@whitequark" class="u-url mention">@<span>whitequark</span></a></span> I don&#39;t know that I agree, but I take the point. At the very least, though, I think Teslas cross pretty far past the line at this point.</p>
<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://wandering.shop/@xgranade" class="u-url mention">@<span>xgranade</span></a></span> i think this is well into &quot;moral OCD&quot; territory rather than any serious political analysis</p>
<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@whitequark" class="u-url mention">@<span>whitequark</span></a></span> I mean, yes? To varying degrees, but we&#39;ve been on a pretty direct road to fascism for decades at least, and a lot of those steps have been really ordinary things people went along with.</p>
