Interesting sci-fi horror trope from a dream: huge worldwide fad to get converted into an android with most of the body and brain replaced by machine, keeping a human element in a "biological core" device in the robotic brain. But then it turns out that was fake and everyone just became a full robot as a devious trick to exterminate humanity. No war with machines was necessary, we willingly destroyed ourselves for a viral fad

Which makes them even more amazing, because that means they're remotely updating them.</p><p>I was too busy being amazed by them to even look them up. I just did. They're called Electronic Shelf Labels and apparently there's over 280million of them deployed :-)</p>
