additional con:
- really bad name. i would've called it something else.

'solder ninja pen' on crowd supply

pros:
- the weller tip system looks really good, i bet performance is wonderful
- i really like the alu body construction
- the strain relieved cable would be great i would probably go through less cables
- i like open source hardware it's good vibe

cons:
- not sure i'm in a position to drop that much on a soldering iron at this stage of my life

much to consider.

@jacqueline I have my suspicions that it cannot scale without making tradeoffs that ultimately negate the tangible freedoms afforded by it being open in the first place, and thus will always be primarily restricted to luxury items for wealthy people. on the other hand, I don't think that devalues it, because people can derive value from these projects even without owning the end-product. I've certainly learned a bunch by browsing folks' schematics and board layouts.

open hardware is very interesting i think. usually very expensive, but also surprisingly often best-in-class if you can forgive the limitations of operating at such a small scale.

i am once again thinking that they should let me have all crowd supply products for free

Hmm. Initial reports are negative. Still a problem. Maybe a bad soldering job so I'll need to double check. Not giving up that easy.
