We use the official Discourse hosting, which is quite more pricy than hosting it ourselves, but it gives us some peace of mind and we can still migrate to a fully self-hosted version if needed.</p><p>Nowadays, I wish we had the same for the chat server. Hosted Mattermost or something similar would be pretty great. </p><p>Migrating the community to a different app/service is a huge pain, so we don't really have any plans for that atm.</p>

But yeah, self-hosting can be painful.</p>

It's basically open source Slack.</p>
