It&#39;s just that the wealth gap wouldn&#39;t be widening so quickly. </p><p>If all such programs get cut that the prospects for America&#39;s future prosperity are grim. They like to talk about debt, but experience shows they’re not interested in eliminating national debt. It exists to replace taxation on the richest with a profitable investment scheme. They’re interested in protecting the guarantee on the returns, and thus want to limit government spending so taxes can be used for that end.</p>

<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@shriramk" class="u-url mention">@<span>shriramk</span></a></span> wonderful point, very well made. </p><p>For investors, the difference to “normal vc” is that instead of buying a share of the enterprise, at your own risk, you’re buying government debt and receiving guaranteed, but lower return.</p><p>Thus government funding allows for research without knowing the outcomes - a primary driving force in human progress and economic development, but also a one way pump of guaranteed new wealth on the tax payers dime.</p>
