i now own an ebike :3

i'm physically disabled and both walking _and_ using UK public transit is hard, for various reasons; while expensive this is a much wanted improvement in mobility

the degree of assist provided by the shimano e5000 drivetrain is actually right on the edge of the level of exertion i can sustainably afford, so i was worried for a while that i couldn't use it after all, but i think it works in the end; i need additional skill and a lot more care in riding though.

@whitequark My understanding is that the Bosch stuff is similar. Renesas seems like a likely culprit based on their product lines.

Looking forward to somebody doing an open one.

@cliffle I've all but given up reversing them, the whole system seems like a Renesas fever dream, the most recent version of the PC app comes with multiple layers of custom obfuscation (in dotnet!) so just to dump the assemblies I'd probably need something like memprocfs, the bus is custom, the programming dongle has an MCU inside too and costs $200 with no cheaper alternatives, it is basically built like automotive software/firmware (derogatory)

i have so many half-baked website ideas floating around in my head but my biggest problem is finishing things :cwy:

(i.e. black or purple)

@whitequark Interesting. The closed nature of ebike equipment bugs me, so I'll be curious to see if you learn anything more about the mystery micro.

@cliffle oh yeah us too, but this particular set of micros (from Shimano e-bike drivetrain and peripherals, if you're curious) were particularly inscrutable, and we found no match. we still found no match after going through the biggest SVD databases, so it didn't help, even if it worked well when testing on the STM32F103 firmware from a TS101
