@dabeaz that was the extent of the advice. And yes, 700.

My medical practice got sent a carton by the Health Department once. We had notified more cases of chlamydia than any other practice in the state (among patients, not staff).

@zanchey Was that the extent of the advice? And 700?!? Was a copy of "Wilt: Larger Than Life" also included?

@dabeaz a friend of mine had his mum bring a carton of condoms (ie 700) into his room while his girlfriend was over and say "just make sure you're careful"

FYI: In this case "official" simply means couple. A first girlfriend. One step at a time....

And one other thing. I suffered greatly by having to figure out a lot of this stuff in my 30s in the midst of a midlife crisis--because the advice I got as a teen was utter crap (or missing altogether). Seriously, FUCK THAT.

Seriously, talk to your kids.

@dabeaz congratulations!

Ah, itโ€™s under New & Noteworthy - Sale Events.

Won't lie: hearing the boy come home last night and boldly proclaim "WE'RE OFFICIAL" to my wife might be my crowning parental achievement.

This, the end result of more than 8 months of ongoing discussion, advice, and navigation of a very tricky environment of social media, high school insecurities, consent, manosphere crap, and everything else.

Much of this overlapped with driving. I never appreciated how much learning to drive would be about everything else. You and the kid in the car.
