<p>Came across this guy in the Prato della Valle in Padova today and wish I&#39;d known who he was at the time. He&#39;s apparently 87 and holds several cycling records. <p>A novel written in a kind of medieval-y &quot;realistic fantasy&quot; setting with a plot point that a day&#39;s ride from the town, deep in the desert, is a field of one thousand mirrors which a lost ancient civilization built for some unknown reason and laid out in a grid pattern. One character is obsessed with figuring out why. The mirrors face the rising sun— did they worship the sun? Is it devotional? Were they trying to show the sun to itself?</p>
