I think it's been done before but always feels clumsy to me (though I am a vim user and so things that feel good to me also feel clunky to others).</p>

The slight amendment I'd make is this:</p><p>If your input is a string, it's delimited, so your output could be a list, doesn't have to be a stream. If your input is a port, it's a stream. That's why I pedantically kept saying "list or string".</p><p>But this is probably just a distraction. The substance of this picture is excellent.</p>
