(how many steps do you think lie from writing a page like this to a suckless-style torch march? -- and other questions that spring to mind)

one of the two main reasons i disrespect plan9 people is because too many of them conflate "what i like" with "sane"

pictured: werc, software i would not even consider installing after reading the first two lines here

@dabeaz I'm always horrified when a developer is asked to riff (commit) on the first day before even hearing the song.

@dabeaz I think software development is a bit too complex to match to jazz here. There's the change, there's the robustness, there's communication with stakeholders and there's the future maintainability. Each of them are related, but sometimes benefiting one creates work or takes away from another.

@dabeaz I'm going with fast iteration & smooth delivery, profiling and debugging. IME no tech stack will make up for that.

Only thing I could really think of is the problem. If you're not actually working to solve the overarching problem at hand, then the rest of it isn't going to matter that much.

I've taken a lot of jazz improvisation courses over the years. One bit of advice given is that "rhythm is king." Basically, it means that above all else, if you're not making rhythm and playing in time, whatever else you do, no matter how "correct" it might be in other ways, it's still going to sound messed up in a bad way.

I wonder if there's some kind of similar concept for software development.

i love when a porn comic actually fills me with joy so much more fun than just being horny
