British MPs have voted to decriminalise abortion, marking the biggest step forward in reproductive rights in almost 60 years.

(Abortion was previously legal in limited circumstances in the UK, but during COVID police began charging women under a law from 1861: they can no longer be prosecuted.)

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/jun/17/decriminalisation-abortion-vote-mps

@whitequark it is very familiar with the concept

As the government takes extreme measures to crack down on immigrants' and protestors' rights, “you can easily see how ALPRs, which is an extremely invasive technology, could be weaponized against that community,” EFF’s Jennifer Pinsof told @404mediaco. https://www.404media.co/california-cops-investigate-immigration-protest-with-ai-camera-system/

@rcombs If Mastodon gGmbH, in consultation with their lawyers, concludes they need a legal means of revoking the implicit or explicit license granted to federated servers, then: They could write one. They have a lawyer, apparently. Instead, at the moment, they are amending their license to grant an irrevokable license from me to Mastodon gGmbH, but not writing a means for me to revoke use by themselves or (though I don't think this part is necessary) federated servers, and that creates a problem

@rcombs If Mastodon gGMBH has not granted a license to federated servers, and I delete the comment, and some server somewhere continues to host the content, I send a takedown to the federated server, they take it down because they have no grounds on which to continue mirroring it. Mastodon gGmbH doesn't have to do anything, everyone is happy.
