also this reminds me of the time I unintentionally nerd-sniped a chemical engineer friend of mine for 8 hours by asking why I pulled a (non-leaking but dead) PRAM battery and found that it had reversed polarity
(answer: the discharge products of a Li-SOCl2 battery react with the iron in the battery case, and at extremely low states of charge, can reverse the polarity. that reaction is *also* why they leak.)

<p>2/3 - Do you have anything even mildly old that contains batteries, where batteries going bad might be destroying it? Have you checked? recently? </p><p>A retro collection, old remotes, that iPod you drag out from time to time, your kids' old iPhone sitting in a corner expanding, handhelds laptops etc.</p>
