These issues evolve over time, so maybe it's more normal now. Also, vowel boundaries differ (like blue/green boundaries in colors), so some people hear that one more than others. A rare meaningful tonal variation in English. No one would give a foreigner a hard time about this one, but they might be judgy to another American.</p>

I find it strange for there to be such a vowel shift (that causes a collision with another word) in one uncommon word for speakers who otherwise stick to dictionary-attested American English vowels.</p>

I come from the other direction where I was pushing for PWAs for years, and Apple/Android developers had absolutely no interest in them. I stopped paying attention to the conversation years ago, but it looks like a total swing in emphasis.</p>
