I just wanted Windows 10. Okay? There, I said it. I don't know what that says about me, but Windows 10 was Good Enough. All the Linux desktop environments I try, I'm like "I just wish it worked like Windows 10". I'd probably just keep using Windows 10, but it turns out I'm not allowed to do that. It's going away or something

I also, honestly, do not understand why either GNOME 2 or Ubuntu GNOME 3 have two taskbars. When I say I like GNOME 3, what I mean is I like GNOME 3 with the "dash-to-panel" extension. But dash-to-panel doesn't support laptop touchpads (??!?) and GNOME keeps breaking it every few months, because GNOME breaks all the extensions every few months.

Cinnamon looks and acts like Dash-To-Panel out of the box (albeit a little grodier), so maybe it's just what I wind up using.

A number of people, seeing me express frustrations with GNOME 3, are suggesting using a GNOME 2 derivative such as MATE or Debian "Legacy Gnome". The problem is, I don't actually like GNOME 2. I like GNOME 3. I just want GNOME 3 to stop doing actively boneheaded things I can't disable, such as periodically popping up an on-screen keyboard and screwing up all my window positions, or disabling all my extensions every couple months, or making folder searches recursive.

@shriramk are we certain he wasn’t talking about the architect(s) von Neumann? They were actually Viennese and often styled “Neumann”, IIRC

@steve Exactly. Though he credited "Neumann". (-: (Also von Mises, etc.)

Just found out while listening to cricket commentary that Hobart Tasmania has a Doctor Syntax Hotel.
