Turned out to be (IMO) a significant paper that changed how the PL community had to approach "scripting" languages. Nobody other than a ranker would care that it was at ECOOP: it instead had something much more significant, ie, impact.</p>

I just worry that various swirling forces (eg, journalization of OOPSLA) will make it hard for it to survive as a quality venue. But then, it's been written off for decades and it's still here. (-:</p>
