<p>think of millipedes as the roombas of the forest floor. they eat discarded forest litter and turn it into soil so more plants can grow, and much like a regular roomba, they have hallucinogenic defensive fluids they sweat when attacked.</p>

I wasn&#39;t trying to state that what industry requires is at odds with academia. My intent was to merely highlight that there is a clear need in industry and that academia won&#39;t be able to satisfy that need, if we don&#39;t have (successful) professors in this field anymore. (Probably too complicated formulation for elementary supply vs demand argument).</p>

Industry doesn&#39;t care whether you have 3 papers or 20. They&#39;d rather have a person who spent 2 years learning LLVM, then wrote two more papers, than 20 throw-away papers. So tenured compilers faculty should have no trouble filling that industry pipeline, to mutual benefit?</p>
