Success! After soldering the wire where it needs to be, red is back!

The image is horizontally squished because I’m using a resolution of 1152x368 instead of 576x368: the PLL of my GPU isn’t capable of driving such low resolution but if you double the horizonal timings and the pixel clock, it looks the same to the CRT.

I tracked it down to a loose wire at the tail end of the signal path, right where it’s supposed to enter the tube. The signal on the red wire is a respectable 65V here. And there’s an 800V signal on the same PCB!

With the new adapter, the CRT is working, but the red color component is broken. In the image below, the black rectangle is supposed to be red.

The CRT has a resolution of 576x368 at 60Hz. Non-standard timings and a pixel clock that is too low for the Intel iGPU of my X220 laptop. In the past, I used xrandr to set correct timings, but that's a pain. The custom EDID contains 1152x368/60Hz timings. You can now plug in the VGA cable and everything magically works! Zero config!

After 3 years of being dormant, I've picked up my Sony CRT project again. The goal is to make an 8" monitor for retro gaming. All it needs is a VGA interface board and a 120V DC power supply. Soldering the power board is for tomorrow. Today, I tackled the easy stuff: replacing the contraption on the left by the new PCB on the right. I added an I2C EEPROM to the PCB to store the EDID.

Every MAGA is an accelerationist actually. They're accelerating collapse of America to be surpassed by China.

I guess I know where that money went to...
