@nyx i think it's a combination of
(a) many programmers struggle with a theory of mind of even their fellow programmers, and
(b) writing documentation is difficult labor where the reward comes primarily from interacting with others

these are related

My kingdom for a datasheet where all of the coordinates in the mechanical drawings are referenced to a single datum. I don't care if it's the center or a corner or what.

Anything but... this.

it's weird how programmers apparently have issues with documenting their code because I just can't help but write way too much documentation explaining my code and why I made certain design decisions and stuff like that

Hi! I'm a software engineer with experience in distributed systems, #Rustlang, networking, browsers, and CI systems, among other things. I'm a former Googler and Mozillian. Sound like a good fit? My DMs are open!

I also designed and taught Comprehensive Rust. So if you don't need a software engineer but your engineers want to learn Rust, hmu?

https://people.cs.uchicago.edu/~dustin/
#getfedihired

@vy Wouldn't such a book be training programmers that I'd later have to fight?

Also, I'm pretty sure I've said this before, but I'll say it again:

Part of your job as a senior is to tell your juniors about your fuckups. The embarrassing cringe reckless and lazy bullshit that you did when you were new, and the various times you brought down Prod. We ALL did it sometime. And then tell them: the moment you realized you fucked up, I know, the impulse is to try and cover it up, but don't do it. Come to the seniors you trust, and they'll help you unfuck it, and fight management tooth and claw like mamma and pappa bears to defend you from any shitheads in management. Because that's what our seniors did to us.

One of the times - oh yeah, somehow there was a transaction lock on the database from something else happening. So it wasn't anything I did.

The other time ... Well, let's just say the DBAs got a plate of cookies from me the next day.
