<p>4/ And it turns out it's not actually universally true. *Thomson's* gazelles can walk soon after birth…but *Grant's* gazelles need two or more weeks before they are moving around.</p><p>So it's a mess all round, and the *book* (ironically, an AI book) starts the misinformation.</p>
<p>3/ It did have a useful nugget: that gazelles are precocial (so perhaps that running isn't that significant an achievement). So the book may be overselling the role of reinforcement learning here. But ALSO, that AI snippet has no citations, so I dug more…</p>
