I mean the right tactics. The right messaging. The right candidate (at the right time). The ground game stuff matters and it can make the difference some years but this wasn’t a ground game failure. The work failure here is much broader.

One other change I'm making today: changing my handle here and in other places to Cassandra. The whole Xandra/Cassandra split was my trying to identify where I was presenting as non-tech or tech, respectively, but that's been made difficult by three things: (a) I no longer work in tech, so all that's left is non-tech persona, (b) tech affects everything, and (c) I still carry and value tech expertise and community.

we are about to find out which tech companies become IBM and which of our colleagues are happy going along with it

Intel i7, 6 core 12 thread cpu, NVIDIA 3060 GPU, 64 GB DDR4 RAM and 2x Gen3 2TB NVMe SSD drives; showing it’s age but plenty for most development workloads and decent gaming as well.

Of course no where near as streamlined, aesthetically pleasing, lightweight and power efficient as a MacBook; but I value having upgradable storage and memory.

One day I hope Framework Laptops will be available in my country. Fully upgradable and repairable.

I assume you mean canvassing, phone banking, etc., but correct me if I am wrong. Those things can make the difference in a very close election, but the biggest factors are the candidate's appeal to voters, the effectiveness of the campaign's strategy, and the underlying fundamentals of the race (the economy, mood of the voters, popularity of the incumbent, etc.). It's possible that no amount of work could have overcome those factors in this election.

Almost every research postdoc will allow you to teach classes (and get paid for it).
3. In most cases you could get a teaching-track faculty position directly instead.
