<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@kev" class="u-url mention">@<span>kev</span></a></span> That&#39;s fair Kev. Thanks for the reply.</p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@mike" class="u-url mention">@<span>mike</span></a></span> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@Gina" class="u-url mention">@<span>Gina</span></a></span></p>
<p>So I recently took my <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Motorbike" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Motorbike</span></a> in for it&#39;s first service and while there, they gave me this absolute BEAST to take out for a few hours.</p><p>Very similar to my bike except it&#39;s 200bhp instead of 170bhp. Beautiful machine.</p>

<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@whitequark" class="u-url mention">@<span>whitequark</span></a></span> It might be &quot;attic&quot; but I just looked up a comparison page (okay, dated years ago) and attic was significantly worse. Weird.</p><p>I like that with restic you can mount snapshots into your FS (Userland though 🐌) and meddle from there. Saved my ass a couple of times...</p><p>We also use multi snapshot backups grouped by tags which makes retrieval business a bit easier.</p>
<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@whitequark" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>whitequark</span></a></span> I'm using borg for my stuff. Saved my hide two weeks ago when I managed to wipe both of my server's SSDs. It does take a few minutes to mount large backups, but once a backup's mounted, it works fast.</p>

<p>Today&#39;s <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Wristcheck" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Wristcheck</span></a> is the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Selten" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Selten</span></a> Salvage Bronze</p><p><a href="https://kevquirk.com/watches#selten-salvage-bronze" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">kevquirk.com/watches#selten-sa</span><span class="invisible">lvage-bronze</span></a></p>

<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@whitequark" class="u-url mention">@<span>whitequark</span></a></span> I use borg-backup and I find it quite good. It&#39;s fast, handles deduplication and incremental backups, supports fast encryption... It is not integrated with s3 or any other cloud as far as I know though.</p>
<p>thanks to everyone who responded! i have backups set up i think</p>
<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@whitequark" class="u-url mention">@<span>whitequark</span></a></span> ye, good call on the hold before impl. the `restic forget` is a tombstoning, so not entirely irreversible, but still 100% get that</p><p>the other handy feature is tags (and how operations can group-apply on tags)</p><p>and re pricing: if you want an easy way to cut off even more, backblaze. I moved a couple tb off aws a few months ago because it finally got too much, and backblaze so far has worked without once making me notice it</p>
