However, knowing how to solve/approach problems seems to be an essential skill. </p><p>Instead of asking questions like &quot;how do I do X in Python&quot;, I think a lot of people would be better served by asking a question like &quot;what am I actually trying to do here?&quot; Or &quot;how do I decompose X into smaller subproblems?&quot; </p><p>Watching my kids, I now see difficulties going all the way back to math &quot;story problems.&quot;</p>

<p>I don&#39;t like to be negative about programming language stuff, but if your Python idea is, &quot;there&#39;s already a way to do this, but here&#39;s an idea for new syntax to do it with less typing&quot; then not only is it not a good idea, it&#39;s a bad idea.</p><p>That&#39;s how Python becomes Perl.</p>

So, I was already pretty adverse to it when history seemed to be repeating itself.</p>
