<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@kev" class="u-url mention">@<span>kev</span></a></span> I’ve been meaning to write (and still might) a similar post about my 14” M1 Max MacBook Pro. Obviously I paid like 4x what you did but I still feel like it’s the best computer I’ve ever owned. I fully intended to upgrade when the M3 come out, now we’re looking at the M4 and I still doubt I’ll be tempted.</p><p>5-6 years is about how long Apple officially supports things (maybe up to 7-8?) so that lines up, but you also have to factor this in: they still sell your laptop brand new through a special deal with Walmart for $699 (currently $649 actually!) which means they will support it longer usually. I think $649 for an M1 air is easily the best deal I have ever seen for a computer in my life. <a href="https://www.walmart.com/ip/Apple-MacBook-Air-13-3-inch-Laptop-Silver-M1-Chip-8GB-RAM-256GB-storage/715596133" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">walmart.com/ip/Apple-MacBook-A</span><span class="invisible">ir-13-3-inch-Laptop-Silver-M1-Chip-8GB-RAM-256GB-storage/715596133</span></a></p>
<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@kev" class="u-url mention">@<span>kev</span></a></span> been toying with the idea of an upgrade on mine as I have the 8GB Air too but can&#39;t justify it when it keeps chugging along.</p>
<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://types.pl/@disconcision" class="u-url mention">@<span>disconcision</span></a></span> yeah can&#39;t do that in everyday life. You never know when you&#39;ll meet a real-life Simlish person</p>
<p>I&#39;ve had my M1 MacBook Air for 3 years now. It&#39;s the most expensive laptop I&#39;ve ever owned, but was it worth it?<br /> <a href="https://kevquirk.com/blog/three-years-with-my-m1-macbook-air" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">kevquirk.com/blog/three-years-</span><span class="invisible">with-my-m1-macbook-air</span></a></p>
<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@regehr" class="u-url mention">@<span>regehr</span></a></span> I&#39;ve often wondered how much this stuff actually exists in the wild. The only time I&#39;ve ever actually seen it was on a legal case (patent) where the code in question was maybe managed at CMMI level 3 or 4. They handed over something like 400000 pages of software change forms for us to look at.</p>
