For the moment I have simply gone into settings-touchID/security and disabled Touch ID for purchases. Once I rebooted that worked, in the sense that now I get a prompt for my Apple ID password. In the sense of being able to use Touch ID to purchase not so much.</p>

I need to talk to her about this. But I still think 256 at $449 over the minimum price for the iPad Air that she won't use the features of and no one wants Apple Intelligence.</p>
<p>I spoke too soon. The iPad I got her 7 years ago was 128GB and doesn’t have enough space.
