I also don't get entangled in ANY discussions anymore like Kubernetes or not, monolith or microservice, OO or not, design pattern, test principles, programming languages - you name it.

I have my taste and that's what it is. My taste, my style of building a system. There's plenty of others. Some are just not for me.

I want my system to be robust, tolerant to be used "creatively", easy to replace/throw away, flexible AND SIMPLE. (as far a distributed database can go in terms of "simplicity" :)

I'm a firm believer that you don't plan "quality" you engineer yourself into quality by "release early, release often" and putting things live right away.

eat your own catfood. consequently.

code & platforms need to be touched, kneaded, molded, the are in constant flux and distributed systems are alive.

radically agile and yes, do constantly change your mind. try, abandon, iterate, deploy three options.

if you do your shit well, demands of "UNTIL TOMORROW ASAP" don't scare you anymore.

thanks, usbguard documentation, this is exactly what i was looking for in the way of job security

how we did it:

iterate over and over. day 1 had a cluster already. try this tool meh. try next one cool.

off the shelf components and no special snowflakes (whatever DO is already using)

refactor, review, refactor, review until I couldn't stomach another line of YAML :)

fast decisions, no endless discussions, no elaborate plans. if doubts, just try every option.

don't hesitate to write code.

put everything live right away.

100% not a beginner's project though - we def know our shit.

16 clusters rolled out, fully stocked and live. one more rollout of another component next week and WE ARE DONE WITH OUR SUPREMELY SHINY OBSERVABILITY ISLANDS.

Now that it's complete, I can setup an entire new region (one region, one Observability Island 😂) in about 3 hours from zero to data ingesting. 🥳
