Obviously I paid like 4x what you did but I still feel like it’s the best computer I’ve ever owned. I fully intended to upgrade when the M3 come out, now we’re looking at the M4 and I still doubt I’ll be tempted.

5-6 years is about how long Apple officially supports things (maybe up to 7-8?) so that lines up, but you also have to factor this in: they still sell your laptop brand new through a special deal with Walmart for $699 (currently $649 actually!) which means they will support it longer usually. I think $649 for an M1 air is easily the best deal I have ever seen for a computer in my life. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Apple-MacBook-Air-13-3-inch-Laptop-Silver-M1-Chip-8GB-RAM-256GB-storage/715596133
