Unless it&#39;s a head-on crash, the skin of the aeroplane absorbs the majority of the energy when an it glides along the landscape. It does convert the energy to heat and often the cause of death would be smoke inhalation and inability to escape due to broken limbs. Statistically most survivors were sitting at the back of the aeroplane.</p>
