<p>i also think it's a problem that hosting cities and venues are chosen as though they are interchangeable (lowest bidder, etc) rather than in places where we actually have local connections embedded in both the academic and geographic communities.</p><p>when i was in grad school we used to have "local arrangements chairs." but the sigplan venues i've been to lately don't seem to have that anymore?</p>
