<p>I love this book of essays from the &#39;60s with all my heart, but the cover makes it look like something a full-on Texas nationalist would love. </p><p>Nope, way nope! McMurtry was a hippie English major from Rice who grew up on a ranch near the panhandle, and so I find the complications of his condition, and his making fun of Texas stupidities like the Astrodome, deeply true and relatable. </p><p>And yeah, his prose is as flawless as can be in these novelistic essays.</p>
