This is a dbus interface that was originally created for Canonical’s Unity desktop environment. Maybe someday there will be a freedesktop namespace for badges and progress bars. I’d love to see some kind of ongoing activity API standard, but for now we’re continuing to use the old Unity namespace to remain compatible with more apps</p>
